August 6th – Meeting Update
August 4, 2009 by glisc
Good Morning All,
Brian Masse’s office contacted me this morning; regretfully, he will be unable attend our August 6th meeting as he has to be in Ottawa for the Nortel hearing. He
will, however be joining us for a meeting in September. I have
heard from many of our members that everyone is very interested in
hearing Aspa’s presentation, so I look forward to seeing you all
next Thursday.

about Youth Employment Services, as well as explaining subsidies
available for hiring/training a young person. I am sure that we are all
looking forward to learning more about Youth Employment Services, in
order to more effectively refer potential partner organizations to
Aspa. Please RSVP to me, Pamela Breault no later than end of business

accordingly.
Aspa sent me the following note (in the event you have a difficult time finding their facility):
“…547 Victoria Ave (one way street that you can
catch from Park or University, heading towards Wyandotte). We have
parking next to our building – the driveway is actually just
before the building itself. We are on the opposite side of the street
from the YMCA.”

validity when trying to refer business to a company you may not have
first-hand experience dealing with. If you do not wish to write a

Featured GLISC Member – Rick Baxter, Account Executive/Empire Communications
July 28, 2009 by glisc
Rick has been in the security business for about 30 years and about 10 years in telecommunications.
Sales, is a people business that takes time to learn. Rick has
learned that people don’t care about how much you know until they
know how much you care. This, of course means you need to take a keen
interest in your customer’s operation and how your solution will
enhance it. Rick takes pride in the manner of which he conducts
business and always looks forward to meeting new people and challenges.
Empire Communications has been in business for over 25yrs.
Originally starting as Sergeant Security supplying and installing
security systems, fire alarm systems etc. Empire Communications was
created about 15yrs ago as the need to supply and install phone systems
became more apparent.
Today, Empire Communications is a full service company that offers
installation and service on a variety of phone systems – Nortel,
Panasonic, and NEC. Empire is the largest NEC dealer in Canada.
We can service any one from a couple of phones up to several thousand
phones. We specialize in PBX and VoIP phone systems.
Empire is also AMP certified for Cat5e, Cat6 and fiber data cabling.
The certification allows us to offer you a 25yr warranty on the cable,
connectors and patch panels. We also install and provide test results
for Nordex and Hubbell installations.
Empire Communications is a Kantech authorized dealer for door access
systems. This allows each door to be restricted by person, time of day
and authorization with a full audit trail outlining all activity. They
can be operated over a LAN / WAN network so that remote sites can be
administered from one location. This can be integrated with your camera
system to provide a picture with every transaction.
Empire is also an authorized dealer for GE surveillance camera
systems. They have a large variety of cameras that will meet every
need. Everything from covert cameras to pan, tilt, zoom domes that
allow for 360 degree viewing. These can all be brought back to a
digital recorder that integrates with your network. This allows for
administrative staff to view live or recorded video from their desk top
workstation or from a computer from home or any location where internet
access is available. You even have the ability to control the PTZ dome
cameras from a remote location. The dome cameras can be connected to
door contacts that will cause the camera to turn and zoom into any
opened door.
These are just a portion of the products and services that Empire
Communications is able to offer. Please keep us in mind for any
upcoming projects. Let our years of experience design a cost effective
solution for you.

Featured Member – Rick Evans/Cornerstone Intelligent Software Corp.
July 7, 2009 by glisc
I fell into the software business in 1999, after about 10 years in the mold business, as a designer. I started as an applications engineer. I was in charge of pre sales demos, training and after sales support.
I’ve had the opportunity to meet a lot of people in the mold, and die industry. They are all truly hard working individuals.
My job has taken me to Australia, China and many other places in Canada and the US, that I would not normally have seen.
I moved into sales about 4 years ago, so, I’m fairly new to the craft. I have a lot to learn to become a “good” sales person. I don’t believe in catchy statements, trickery or pressure sales to close a deal. I just want my customer to believe that they bought a good, dependable product from a good, dependable guy.
Cornerstone Intelligent Software Corp. has been around for about 18 years. We develop our flagship product, called Expert Mold Designer. It is the brainchild of our CEO and founder, John Mateau. He envisioned this software and brought it to fruition. Over the years, it has turned into one of the most automated and intuitive software in its class. It is a mold design software created by mold designers. We have many more plans to make our software even better.
We are more than a mold design software , though. We are resellers of other, established CAD systems. We sell KeyCreator, by Kubotek. It was formerly known as Cadkey. We also sell a new product called SpaceClaim. It is a new approach to solid modeling. It is being created by the founders of SolidWorks and Pro-E.
We plan to bring in more products to our line as we continue to grow our company. Our business model of development, reselling training and service has been very successful for us.
We certainly look forward to having the opportunity to meet with you and discuss you CAD needs. If we can’t help you, we can, more than likely, point you in the right direction.
I love what I do and I look forward to meeting and helping even more people on my journey.
***Note: Rick Evans is one of the three founding members of GLISC. Rick, along with Mike Kramer and Todd Kuzniak are the Managing Directors of our Consortium.

GLISC Testimonials
June 1, 2009 by glisc
So, how do we know that GLISC is working and how do we know who to refer? At this stage, testimonials are a great tool to help us learn more about each other and the calibre of work that has been provided by our members. Hearing first hand about each other’s experiences with fellow members will give everyone all the more reason to refer each other – even outside of our group.
We request that members who have ever used the services of one of the other members (whether it be in your current position/company or not), please leave your comments detailing your experience after this post. Comments will remain open indefinitely for this purpose.
For example (HERTZ EQUIPMENT RENTAL): While working for Comstock Canada on-site at Windsor Assembly Plant, I took care of all on-site purchasing. Although we had many equipment suppliers to choose from, I always called upon Hertz Equipment Rentals first, as I could always count on prompt, courteous and cost-effective service as well as delivery. If they were unable to fulfill my particular needs, they always were able to refer me to another vendor – saving a great deal of extremely valuable time (and money). Hertz has always been a stellar supplier to deal with, and I would never hesitate to refer their services to anyone. – Pamela Breault, MTE/Con-Syst-Int Group

Working Together Towards Common Goal
May 25, 2009 by glisc
The Great Lakes Industrial Sales Consortium, otherwise know as GLISC is the creation of Mike Kramer, Todd Kuzniak and Rick Evans. Leaders in their respective fields, the trio understands that in order to remain competitive in the marketplace today, the philosophy can no longer be “business as usual”. “In the past,” says Mike Kramer, General Manager of Con-Syst-Int Group Inc. and co-founder of GLISC, “we had a steady stream of clients readily needing our products and services. As we all know, the industry has changed in recent years, however, all that really means is that we must be able to change with it.” Together, they developed a business networking model specific to Industrial Sales Professionals. GLISC is a voluntary referral system of non-competing businesses. These businesses work through a network to learn about each other’s company and expand the ability to make referrals through a company’s own sales network. The consortium functions under a “givers gain” philosophy, referring to the concept that the higher the level of collaboration that takes place between companies, the greater the returns will be. There is a focus on a “go to” source for your customer service base to provide a consolidated informational network. This group meets bi-weekly for one hour with the hosts rotating each meeting. The host is the focus of the meeting with a ten minute presentation to demonstrate the function and capacity of their respective company to other network members. The group has final say on who is accepted and once accepted your competitors are not able to join that particular Chapter, however, guests are always welcome, and if there is already a competitor in the Chapter, they are encouraged to begin a new Chapter following the same model. The group is currently seeking charter members.
